A former seventh-grade Roanoke teacher and cheerleading coach has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a student. Katherine Harper, 27, was sentenced Thursday in Denton County to six years in prison with 10 years' probation and community service for one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of an improper relationship between educator and student. Harper was arrested March 2017 after police received a tip that the Tidwell Middle School teacher was having sex with a student. An affidavit obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said Harper and a 15-year-old student exchanged nude photos and had sex

multiple times in 2016. The affidavit says the relationship between Harper and the student began when the two started sending flirty text messages. Phone records indicate they communicated 76 times. The student told a Child Protective Services investigator that Harper came to his Trophy Club home at one point and that the two drank alcohol and took off their clothes. The student said he then performed a sex act on Harper, according to the affidavit. After that, authorities say, Harper and the student had sex several times at both of their homes in June and July 2016. Watch video below
