Man Fatally Injures Ex-girlfriend And Her Sister After She Tries To Move Out

The emergency line heard a woman's screams, and then the gunshots. Officers who raced to the scene in the morning found the bodies of Jamie Joiner, who was 30, and her sister Jessica Joiner, who was 34, outside a home in Illinois. Both had been wounded “in the head and neck region," Authorities said. They continued to say: “You could hear a female in the background screaming, and then a couple of what appears to be gunshots in the background." Authorities identified the suspect as Adam Cobb, who was 32. He shared the home with Jamie and was believed to be on the run. They later learned that Jamie and Adam had ended their relationship. “She had notified him that she was going to be moving, and we believe that her sister flew in from California, possibly the day before, to assist her in moving,"authorities said. "They pulled up with a U-Haul, a rented U-Haul, and a car, and at some point a disturbance took place, and Mr. Cobb shot both females," he said. "He also shot a family dog, which was deceased at the scene," he said. A phone that was found near her body led the investigators to come to the conclusion that Jamie had placed the emergency line. Roughly two hours later, Cobb was spotted in his car on the run. When Cobb was seen, he refused to pull over. Since he wouldn’t give up, a 40-minute chase began. Authorities followed the vehicle into Christian

County. The car became "partially disabled," Authorities said. When Cobb decided to get out, authorities reported that he allegedly pointed a weapon toward an officer who was a veteran on the force. He had 26 years' experience. He fired his own weapon and fatally struck the suspect. A "large calibre" weapon found with Cobb is believed to be the same one that he used to fatally injure the sisters. Authorities said. "Forensics will later determine if it was, in fact, the same weapon, but the evidence suggests that it is," he said. Cobb was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and pronounced deceased soon after arriving. His neighbors expressed disbelief at the events. "He helped everybody all the time, and I still can't get over it," said Renee Crouch. She lives about a mile from Cobb's home and said that he often cut her grass for her. Another neighbor, Ben Sharp, “I couldn't ask for a better neighbor." On Sunday afternoon, reporters at the crime scene still saw the U-Haul truck in the driveway, with its rear door still open, according to a news outlet. Connor says that investigators do not know which of the sisters were injured first. There were no witnesses. "Some of these things we'll never know," he said. "This is pretty much a domestic situation that ended in a tragedy. Our thoughts go out to all these families, the Joiner family and the Cobb family. They're both going through a lot right now."
