A West Philadelphia man who fatally injured his Ex girlfriend at a gas station has been arrested and charged with this crime. Rafiq Thompson, who is 38, faces first and third degree fatal injury and firearms violations. He also faces other related offenses in the death of Tamara Cornelius. Prosecutors are also going to charge him in the death of Cornelius’ unborn baby. At the time of her demise, she was four months pregnant. At the time of his arrest, Thompson was already on probation. This was for a 2016 attack on another former girlfriend. He remains in custody, and has been denied bail. Upper Merion Township Authorities officers found Cornelius, who was 31, suffering from multiple wounds at a gas station. There was probable cause to arrest Thompson. Emergency took the victim to the Hospital, where she passed away from her injuries. Witnesses informed authorities that Cornelius was fatally shot by a man who had followed her to the gas station . He stared arguing with her, the records said. One witness informed detectives that he heard Cornelius apologize to the shooter as she laid their wounded. Another said that they heard him say that he didn’t care if he went to jail. Detectives

said that Thompson and Cornelius had encountered each other earlier that night. They were seen at a well known restaurant. Camera footage showed that Cornelius and Thompson arrived not too long after each other. They met at the vestibule of the restaurant. It has yet to be determined why the two had met up at the restaurant. Thompson left the restaurant alone. It was about a half-hour later, records said. Cornelius left about 30 minutes after that, records said Other surveillance footage showed Cornelius driving toward the gas station. Thompson was tailgating her. His headlights were off. They both then pulled into the gas station. The surveillance cameras captured the crime. The two argued, and Thompson pulled out a Wei and and shot Cornelius as she pumped gas into her car. When she tried to get away from danger, Thompson followed and continued to shoot at her. Cornelius had moved on with her life. The baby that she was carrying was with her new boyfriend. They had a whole life together. They had just moved into a new home together. Thompson had been harassing her for months. He just couldn’t wrap his mind around that Cornelius had left him and moved on with her life.
