African American College Grad’s Mic Drop Goes Viral After Scuffle With White Educator

A video of an African American college graduate snatching the microphone from an educator who allegedly cut her name short during a graduation ceremony has gone viral on social media. The graduate, Kadia Iman, is a content creator. The video shows the graduate wrestling the mic from the stunned woman, who tries to hold on to it. “I want the mic! Let go! You didn’t let me get my moment,” she shouts before saying her name to the crowd. “I’m graduating today. I don’t like how you snatched the mic out of my hand, so today is going to be all about me!” She then drops the mic and walks away, while a bystander says, "Oh! Drops the mic! Congratulations!" Iman later explained what happened in a separate video. She said that she was walking on stage and had to say her name before getting her diploma. She said that her name is long and
has three syllables, but she didn’t get to finish saying it because the educator pulled the mic down too fast. She also claimed that she noticed that the same thing happened to some other African American graduates. Some other Grads were able to collect their diploma along with saying their name, their major, and even extras. She said that she felt like she had to reclaim her moment because she worked so hard to graduate and went through so much trouble. She apologized for being problematic and ruining anyone’s day. The video has received thousands of comments from people who offered their congratulations, support, or criticism. Some praised her for standing up for herself and making a statement. Others criticized her for being rude, disrespectful, or attention-seeking. Some questioned the validity of her claim that the educator was discriminating against African American graduates. Others wondered what college she graduated from and what her major was.
