Soon after Lyniah Bell got her acceptance to Michigan State University this year, she was ecstatic.
The self-motivated teen talked about driving east to visit the campus.
This was to see if she could imagine herself as a Spartan Student in the fall.
Her parents, who had known about her aspirations of going to MSU was her dream school during college application season, were equally excited, said her cousin, Sam Brown.
Bell ended up going there this year on an academic scholarship and continued to amaze and surprise her family
with excellent grades. She did all of this while having a part-time job.
Her plans were to major in business and journalism. She looked forward to traveling after graduation.
“She loved it,” Brown said. “Sometimes it felt as if she’s at home there and she was visiting us.”
But Bell, 19, never made it to her second semester. Her dreams were suddenly interrupted.
While home for winter break, she was forcibly expired late in an apparent personal situation with her boyfriend on the South Side of Chicago.
