A man passed away at an Atlanta jail after being eaten alive by insects and bed bugs. LaShawn Thompson, 35, was arrested for a misdemeanor simple battery in Atlanta last summer. Authorities said, that he was taken to the Fulton County Jail. He was placed in the psychiatric wing after officials determined that he was mentally ill. According to the medical examiner, Thompson was found unresponsive in his jail cell and pronounced deceased. Life sustaining measures were taken but were not successful. According to the coroner,

there were no signs of trauma. However, his entire body was covered in bed bugs. There was also note of a "severe bed bug infestation" in the inmate's cell in the psych ward. Thompson's cause of his demise was listed as undetermined. "Mr. Thompson was found dead in a filthy jail cell after being eaten alive by insects and bed bugs," his family's Atlanta-based lawyer, Michael D. Harper revealed. "We're asking for a criminal investigation into the matter and (major) changes at the jail." Watch Video Below
