Elderly Couple Is Mistakingly Arrested For Holding Up A Bank

Can you imagine your grandparents being wrongly accused of doing something unlawful? Well this couple were just minding their own business, when the unthinkable happens. This just goes to show you that you can be at the wrong place and the wrong time. A couple is shook up after the authorities swarmed their car in a parking lot after they left doing some banking. Ottis Dugar, 86, and his 67-year-old wife Demitri still can't believe that they were mistaken for unlawful citizens. The two great grandparents said that they were handcuffed and detained for about 40 minutes. "I really had to think, sir," Ottis said. "If I would've made any false move, they would have started acting aggressively. Ottis is a Korean War veteran with glaucoma and Demitri is a diabetic. They said that the incident happened after they left their Local Bank. Demtiri was driving Ottis to a Restaurant, when things turned very quickly. Authorities approached the couple. the car! Put your hands up!' And when I'm having a bad knee, I cannot get out," Demitri said. "They asked me, 'Who's in the car?' I said my husband. 'What's his name?' I said it's Ottis. 'Does he have anything in the car?' I said no, we don't have anything . 'Well if he's got a something in the car we're going to harm him!'" Apparently the couple was mistaken for holding up a bank. The couple said that they were handcuffed in separate cars. They were detained for about 40 minutes and they were ordered out of the cars several times to be identified by bank witnesses. In a statement the Village of Oak Park said the incident "was a case of mistaken identity based on the initial report of an eye witness to an unlawful act" and that the "witness continued to say that the individuals were the ones seen leaving the bank."
