A woman has been sentenced to 18 years in Prison for running over her husband in Virginia. She left him in a coma. He had critical injuries that he could not over come. He passed away a little over a year later. Bashirah Shamirah Tripp who is 35 years old was given 18 years with an additional 12 years suspended conditional of good behavior. She also will have 5 years probation. On August 6, 2020, Tripp and her husband, James Irving Johnson Jr., got into an argument at a shopping center. During the argument,she threw out some of her husband’s belongings and drove away without her husband. Tripp decided to return back to the scene. Her husband was on the phone and stepped out in

the street. He didn’t see his wife driving and she hit him. The impact threw Johnson into the air. It caused him to hit his head on the ground. He had sustained a serious brain injury that resulted in ending his life. Tripp also hit two other cars after hitting Johnson. She then preceded to get out of the car. She yelled at her unconscious husband and decided to hit him with the car’s bumper. The bumper broke off due to the crash. During her arrest, Tripp told the authorities that she was going to leave Johnson but then turned around and decided to hit him. Her husband was in a coma for 15 months. He had underwent several surgeries and was on a feeding tube.
