Cardi B’s efforts to collect $3 million from a blogger who lied about her being an escort have been paused by a judge.
The rapper sued Tasha K [real name: Latasha Kebe] for defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress in 2019 after she posted a series of videos claiming that Cardi B was into so thought stuff.
Cardi B testified that she felt “extremely mentally unstable over Tasha K’s claims
A jury awarded Cardi B around $4 million in damages earlier this year, including $1.25 million for general damages, $250k for medical expenses, $1.5 million for punitive damages and $1.3 million for attorney fees.
Cardi B thanked the jury and said, "These past couple of years have been difficult for me and constantly reliving it.
Very hard for me.”
However, last month, Tasha K filed for bankruptcy in Florida Court. She listed her assets as $50k-$100k and her liabilities as $1 million to $10 million. Her largest debt was the $3 million owed to Cardi B.
She also owed money to the IRS, credit card companies, and lawyers.
She said she made around $13k per month as a content creator on YouTube.
A Georgia judge ordered Cardi B to stop her collection efforts until Tasha K’s bankruptcy case is resolved.
The judge said the Chapter 11 case puts all of Tasha K’s pending legal matters on hold.
Cardi B has not commented on Tasha K’s bankruptcy filing or the judge’s order. Tasha K has apologized to Cardi B after losing her appeal in March.
