Jonathan Lamont-John Welch, who is 23, of Harper Woods, was at the center of a violent seven-hour barricaded situation. During that time, his 42-year-old mother, managed to escape. She ran into a neighbor’s home. Authorities accused Welch of stabbing her several times in the back with a butcher’s knife. Officers later found Welch’s 1-year-old son in the backyard during the standoff. Medical officials took the child to a hospital. Welch fired multiple rounds at the officers. He also started a fire inside of the home. He then appeared in the doorway, authorities said. Authorities took him into custody. They took him to a nearby hospital for treatment. girlfriend and they had a son together, authorities said. Bray was Welch’s stepdad, according to officials. Frazier and Bray had both been fatally injured by blunt force trauma. At the time of the standoff, Welch was out on bond after being charged for attacking Frazier, court records show. Prosecutors said that Welch strangled Frazier with an extension cord, poured gasoline on her. He also tortured her with a red-hot spatula. and then intimately assaulted her with an object. Welch was charged with seven crimes. This was including torture, assault, and criminal intimate assault. His mother bailed him out. He had a 100k bond and he only had to come up with 10% of this amount to be bailed out. “This is the court’s worst nightmare, the worst possible scenario that could happen,” said Judge Kenneth King, of the 36th District Court. “The witness has been fatally injured after the defendant was placed on bond, given the benefit of being placed on bond with house arrest.” Prosecutors called for an emergency bond hearing for Welch on the original charges. Welch is in custody at the Wayne County Jail. “It’s far too little, far too late,” King said. Watch Video Below
